PARADISA HISTORY: Harper's stay in Paradisa was brief, but not without accomplishments. Within the first week or so of being in the castle, he manages to hook himself into the CastleNet via his dataport and explore the, much unknown, cyberworld of the castle, managed to hack into the more secure, cleaner network around Ira Tower, and volunteered to help out with improving network security. Unfortunately, he never managed to get around to putting his theories and plans to the test.

Afterwards, he met LCpl Leonard L. Church and, after a brief loss where he was shrunken and placed in Church's care, the genius engineer decided to build an android body for him. It took a while, but Harper evenutally managed to build a workable, Commonwealth-style body for Church to load his AI into, all from native materials. During this time, he managed to hack into the radio waves and lock Mark Hunter out from his broadcast, hi-jacking the weekly broadcast and putting his own spin onto things.

Afterwards, he offered his services as an engineer and general fix-it-all man to the castle on a wholescale, building several energy-efficient space heaters for Lucrezia Borgia, but his skills weren't called into any meaningful use again until the Journals filters failed.

Here, he created a secure instant messaging system for use on the CastleNet, on the off chance that this ever happens again. This system was created using the highest possible Commonwealth encryptions that the CastleNet could support, but he didn't guarantee it's security from hackers or castle shenanigans.

When he left the castle, instructions on how to perform basic maintenance and repairs on his android avatar were given to Leonard Church, as well as a hidden, but not unfindable, password to Harper's own secure area on the CastleNet. In there are instructions on how to build a Commonwealth Avatar, as well as security protocols and admin passwords for most of the systems he created, including the Secure IM system. Church, being the one friend that Harper kept consistently during his stay in the castle, was the one person Harper trusted with most of his work. Some of the area remains locked off, proving that Harper still has issues with trust.

WHAT THEY ORIGINALLY LOST: Memories of how his parents died.

SECOND LOSS: The meaning behind the 10 Radical Isotopes. It is the one way to determine if a person is an agent of the Abyss. The Spirit of the Abyss is an entity from a pocket dimension and poses a great threat to the known worlds. The 10 Radical Isotopes are known as such since they can't exist in our dimension, and are present in those possessed by the Abyss. When asked "From the beginning, what are the ten radical isotopes," agents of the Abyss must answer. Harper will know that the 10 radical isotopes are important, what they are and where they come from, but not the connection between them and the Abyss.

INTENT: [ What draws you to play this particular character again? Ideally, what would you like to do with the character in Paradisa? It's alright if you don't know yet; we're just curious. ]

CHARACTER
CHARACTER NAME: Seamus Zelazny Harper
SERIES: Andromeda
CANON POINT: 04x17 - "Abridging The Devil's Divide."
LOSS: The memory of how his parents died. This will mean that Harper does not know why he hates the Nietzscheans so much.

ABOUT THE CHARACTER: Seamus is a self-proclaimed genius, with plenty of evidence to back that up. He worked as the sole engineer on the Glorious Heritage-class Commonwealth cruiser, the Andromeda Ascendant, maintaining it's many systems for a span of three years, and repairing them to their former glory.

Harper is not modest. He will find any way to brag about his intelligence and achievements, particularily if it is to a woman. Harper considers himself God's given gift to womankind, or anything remotely feminine in origin. He also goes as far as to proclaim himself god-like to the Andromeda's android avatar, Rommie, which he constructed himself. Although this was in an attempt to save himself when Rommie was controlled by the AI of the Balance of Judgement.

An example of his lack of modesty is that he often talks about his genius in the third person and has a habit of, when pulling off an impressive repair to save the ship, saying "Trust in the Harper, the Harper is good." This shows that he may have a slight god complex due to the fact the original phrase is to give worship to the Lord Jesus. At the very least, it shows him to be extremely arrogant, but still at levels where most people can tolerate him.

He is not without his shortcomings, however. Harper is seen as a coward, only interested in preserving his own life at times, however, he can easily be persuaded against running, usually by Dylan or Beka. He is irrationally angry against the race of genetically altered super-humans called Nietscheans, in particular, members of the Drago-Katzov pride. This is because the Drago-Katzov have held Earth since the Fall of the Commonwealth three hundred years prior, and were responsible for the deaths of his parents and a cousin.

Despite this, Harper does have a semi-amicable relationship with the Nietzschean Tyr Anasazi. This may be because both Harper's family and Tyr's Pride, the Kodiak, were killed by the Drago-Katzov Pride. Tyr does, however, admit that Harper makes him smile, "at least, on the inside."

On the flip-side, Harper has an irrational fear of the race known as the Magog. He will literally freeze up and panic when in proximity to any of the monsters. This is due to the fact that another cousin was used by the Magog to incubate their larvae, and was "euthanised" by the rest of Harper's family. This is seen when the Andromeda encounters the Magog World Ship at the end of the first season. When the ship is invaded, it takes Tyr Anasazi to persuade Harper to start working again.

Harper defends his friends fiercely. Once earned, his loyalty is worth more than his life. He has, often, risked everything to save his friends. Notably is Trance Gemini before she swapped places with her future self. Being his closest friend, Harper once put himself directly into harm's way to protect her from the Nightsider, Gerentex.

Harper has no problem following orders, however, he will do the job in his own way. Frequently. Most of Andromeda's battle repairs have been done to the engineer's improvisation, and probably not to the design the Vedrans intended. He does, however, always get the job done, and to an exceptional standard.

His speciality is in Slipspace mechnanics and Quantum Physics, but he has also shown exceptional skill in robotic engineering, Weapons Design, 4th degree equations and nanotechnology. He has used all of these skills in his service on board the Andromeda.

In summary, Harper is a cowardly genius with a slight god complex. He is fiercely loyal, despite his fears and past grudges, and will fight to the death if necessary.

ABILITIES: Harper has many skills, mostly resting in Slipspace Engineering, Quantum Mechanics, Nanotechnology, Robotic and Gyroid Engineering, Weapons Design and 4th Degree Equations. He's a bona-fide, self-taught genius. He's known to be able to make anything from spare parts, repair anything electronical and create new technology of his own design.

Harper has a data port in his neck that allows him to interface his mind with computer systems and AI networks, allowing him to use his brain to access and process data, and create an avatar of himself in the computer system to interact with it.

THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE: Machine Shop 2 is where Harper keeps all his android parts, nifty add-ons, R & D for better battery life, etc. It's here where Harper is currently locked in, blasting music loudly over the speakers in the room.

He's bent over the body of a woman, an android, working on her internal circuitry. Rommie had received a lot of damage when fighting off a small cell of Restorians. Not that Harper ever needed an excuse to work on Rommie. It was just better to have one.

"You are, seriously, my finest creation ever, Rommie." He mumbles to himself, selecting a micro-welder to seal up some leaks in her power supply conduits. "If I do say so myself."

He sets the micro-welder down, moving to turn the android over to work on her back. There were some laser-blast marks, a decent-sized hole in the left shoulder. "Aw, man, the servos are fried..." He mutters. "Andromeda, sorry, baby, but you're gonna have to wait a bit longer to have your avatar back."

A hologram appears, looking exactly like the woman on the table. "That's fine, Harper. Got a time so I can tell Dylan?" "Give me another few hours. Those Restor bastards really did a number on your servo couplings. I'm going to have to replace them."

A pause as he looks over the android again. "How could they damage something so beautiful. You're a work of art, Rommie." "As long as you spend more time fixing me and less time ogling me. Get on with it, Harper." The hologram, however, seems to be barely containing her amusement as she disappears.

"Yes, ma'am. Back to work, ma'am..." Harper mumbles under his breath. "You'll fall for me sooner or later..."

FIRST-PERSON JOURNAL SAMPLE: [There's a yawn over the journal, Paradisa. Someone's waking up...

...Before there's a surprised sort of yelp.]

O-Okay, this is new.

[A pause and some rustling.]

Okay. So... I've still got my weapon... My communicator. So, either I've not been taken prisoner, or these are some really dumb kidnappers...

Harper to Andromeda. Dylan? Beka? Rommie? Are you receiving me?

[There's the sound of static.]

Crap. Out of range... Well, unless someone managed to fix that Tesseract machine, there's gotta be a way out of here. And if it's one thing Seamus Zelazny Harper does best, it's get outta places where he's overstayed his welcome...

INTENT: No intent other than to see how well he'll cope in the environmnent of the castle.
